While the world was fascinated by the birth of new, transnational experiments in Western Europe, nationalism also experienced a resurgence. This episode will discuss both the peaceful (Czechoslovakia) and violent (Yugoslavia) breakup of states, highlighting the return of genocide and the failure of the UN to stop it at Srebrenica. It will also point out examples of nationalist resurgences in Western Europe, including Catalonia and Scotland.
